HROTC ADHERES TO REWARD-BASED TRAINING ONLY
What is Reward-based Training?
Reward-based training is enjoyable for the dog and positively enhances the relationship between the dog and handler. Rewards may be in the form of a food treat, favorite chew toy or verbal praise such as “good dog” in a pleasant tone of voice to be given when the dog performs the good behavior.
HROTC does not allow the use of aversive training methods in class nor do we teach or recommend these methods to our students. Aversive training methods include, but are not limited to, the use of E-Collars, prong collars, choke collars, physical punishment, yelling or other actions by the handler designed to instill fear in the dog, or any other aversive technique.
Reward-based training is the most humane and effective way of training dogs and addressing any unwanted behaviors. Our goal is always to help build a relationship of trust and respect between you and your dog.
