Conformation Handling Seminar Series I
Instructor: Donald Jernigan, professional handler and breeder
HROTC is offering a series of 6-week seminars designed to improve conformation show handling skills. While the focus is on the handler and not the dog, there is significant ring practice as this is a hand’s on class. We need to put learning to action. Whether you are a newbie or experienced handler, you will improve your presentation skills. The class is limited to 6 dog/handler teams. This allows us to tailor the course to meet the varying needs of each student.
Note from the instructor: How many times have you heard someone say: “Handlers ALWAYS win. It’s not fair!” Ever say that yourself. I know I have said it. You want to know why handlers win so much, just watch any ring. Handlers win because their presentation skills are better. They dedicate their lives to the art of dog show presentation. Yes there are many other reasons. But I have seen very experienced amateurs dominate the pros, too.
When I started handling dogs, there was no class available like this in Tidewater (except for personal instruction). I was blessed with many angels who helped me acquire the necessary skills. I am happy that HROTC is offering this seminar series to our community and have included me in the process.
Students need to bring a copy of the AKC Breed Standard for their dog to class.
